Everbearing Raspberry "Polana": Harvest Without Worms Until the Frost

"Polana" is a hit variety. No need for winter protection, it resists pests, and gives berries when regular raspberries are long gone.
If you want to eat fresh raspberries in October, "Polana" is your go-to. This everbearing variety fruits on current-year canes. The main advantage: you simply cut it to the ground in autumn, so no pests overwinter in the canes, and it grows back healthy and clean in spring.
Soil: What Does This Record-Breaker Love?
Raspberries need plenty of nutrients and moisture to sustain a heavy late-season crop.
- Best Choice: Fertile Loamy soils (Type 1) or Clay soils (Type 3) with good drainage.
- Soil Check: Use the sausage test. A smooth ring (Type 3) ensures moisture retention, while a cracking ring (Type 1) provides the perfect balance for root aeration.
Best Companions (Good)
- Calendula (Marigolds): Their scent deters many pests attracted to juicy berries.
- Garlic: Acts as a natural fungicide, protecting roots from rot.
- Apple Trees: A traditional and successful pairing. They help each other fight off scab and fungal issues.
Main Enemies (Bad)
- Strawberries: Never plant them together! They share the strawberry-raspberry weevil, which can decimate both crops.
- Potatoes and Tomatoes: Can transmit Verticillium wilt to the raspberries.
AgroPlanner Tip: "Polana" is a vigorous bush. In our app, it occupies a 2x2 grid. The system will flag a **conflict with strawberries** in redβpay attention to this to avoid weevil infestations. Also, check sun exposure: late-season berries need maximum light to ripen.
