Zucchini and Courgettes: How to Grow a Bountiful Harvest in Limited Space

Zucchini and courgettes are among the most rewarding crops in any garden. They grow quickly, require simple care, and with the right approach, provide enough harvest for the whole family. However, to keep the plants healthy and the fruits tasty, several rules should be followed.

Space and Sunlight

Zucchinis are the "egoists" of the garden. They have large leaves and need plenty of room for root development and ventilation:

• Spacing: The optimal distance between bushes is 70-100 cm. If planted too closely, moisture gets trapped under the leaves, leading to fruit rot and powdery mildew.
• Lighting: These are sun-loving plants. In deep shade, zucchinis grow extensive green mass but form almost no fruit.

Watering and Fruit Care

The main mistake when growing zucchini is watering with cold water over the leaves. This provokes diseases and causes flowers to drop:

• Watering at the root: Use only settled warm water. Try to keep the leaves dry, especially in the evening.
• Harvesting: Do not wait for the zucchini to turn into a giant vegetable. The best flavor is found in fruits 15-20 cm long. Regularly picking young fruits stimulates the plant to form new ones.

Companion Planting in the Garden
